Theme Night Photography, light painting/light trails, hold a light (use cars or flashlights or light wands or lanterns) Let the lights be or enhance your subject.
Night photography and light painting/ light trails/night-sky. Use your long exposure skills.
BE CAREFUL if your taking light trails of cars please remember cars can’t see you in the dark, wear reflectors, take a friend to watch out for you. Use a headlamp to see. Stand on the sidewalk or a side street. USE A TRIPOD.
Instead of light trails, use flashlights or light wands outside to paint with. Go to a park or backyard or inside. Tell a story or create some fun and interesting abstract designs right in your yard or local park or find a tunnel? Youtube is again a great place to work on ideas or learning the skills. Just type in ‘Light painting photography’ (SEE LINKS BELOW) Know the ground you walk on. Make sure it is safe.
YOU CAN MAKE your own light wands if you don’t have them. Flashlight in a tube or plastic water bottle. Want it coloured? Add tissue paper or cover in light see-through coloured fabric. Use glue or elastic bands to attach. Or just a plain flashlight or battery operated Christmas/fairy lights. Use a flashlight to draw words or designs in the air. Make your shutter 1-30 seconds or more. (Longer then 30 sec switch to bulb). Play with white balance.
Doesn’t have to be pitch black out, evening light works or stay inside make your own dark space. Don’t worry about perfecting this if it is new to you.. just have fun, try it out. Car trails are lots of fun safely from your yard or through your window. Dance around with lights! (Don’t worry about those neighbours…. Lol) Don’t forget to post in Pbase! Also you may want to take sky/star photos/milkyway photos. (You need a very dark location for that). You can also light an object or paint it’s edges with light.
Phones do have long shudder speeds settings and night settings, so if you use a phone, see if you can look up how to use yours on google. You can even get tripod mounts and tripods build for phones.
